About: 18th & 19th Century Antique French Oak
Unlike most of our salvaged and reclaimed oak flooring, these Reclaimed Antique French Oak boards are carefully extracted from actual wood flooring installations from city homes or farmhouses across France. Essentially, these floor planks epitomise the more luxurious side of our Antique wood flooring stories and design concepts. For this reason, detailed project planning with floor plans and layout drawings is essential for a successful installation.
The main difference with Antique French Oak is material scarcity and provenance, and just like with a centuries-old Antique cabinet, there is a limited supply of material available. Unlike other Antique collections that are easier to procure, they are cut from old structural beams such as our European Antique Oak or our Antique Heritage Oak,
From large-format country-style boards to a more refined Parisian parquetry style, each Antique piece of wood is carefully inspected, graded, re-machined and kiln-dried for added stability and simplifying the installation process. Unusual challenges occur regularly when crafting these beautiful, one-of-a-kind floors. So, a rigorous restoration process by our expert craftsmen and women at our workshop in the North of England is essential.
* The floor in the last 2 two pictures was ‘cleaned only and not sanded’. This is why the wood has maintained an unfinished, raw wood appearance.
